Scope:
Under the supervision of the Food Security and Community Health (FSCH) Manager, the Farming Business Counselor (FBR) will be providing education, training and technical assistance to IRC farming clients. The twin goals of the FBR are to (a) increase business and marketing self-reliance of refugee and disadvantaged farmers and (b) assist them in increasing their farm business viability.
Responsibilities:
- Provide curriculum development for farm business classroom training series and workshops.
- Provide classroom instruction and customized workshop trainings for refugee farmers in the topics of business start-up, expansion, sales options and marketing techniques.
- Provide one-on-one technical assistance to farming microenterprise clients to assist with the creation and implementation of business and marketing plans as well as farm business management, land access and business expansion.
- Provide intensive client case management to track and ensure consistent client progress and high-quality customer service.
- Maintain client case files and program reporting data in a timely, organized manner.
- Support other Food Security and Community Health Department projects and other initiatives, as needed.
Requirements:
- Demonstrated experience with small business counseling, technical assistance or strong entrepreneurial background, preferably in agriculture.
- Experience working with pre-literate populations in non-traditional settings.
- Prior experience working with refugees and/or immigrant communities preferred.
- Experience with curriculum development and instruction of adult learners.
- Second language (Arabic, Burmese, Swahili/Kizigua/MaiMai, Khmer, Spanish, or Karen) and interpretation skills a plus.
- Bachelors degree in agriculture, business, marketing, education or related field a plus.
- Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
- Strong project management experience, including writing, presentation and budget management skills.
- Knowledge of agricultural production techniques.
