An Arabic young man lunches a project helps the Arabic newcomers in America

The United States of America considered “The Dream Land” for many, thousands of refugee and immigrants arrive yearly from all over the world, hoping for a better life, but many newcomers facing language and culture understanding difficulties. Thus it is very hard for them to adapt in their first years.

To make the newcomers journey through life in America easier Mohammed Tuama lunched his project (Newcomers Support & Development) to help them merge into their new life in America.

Ehap Al Ameri, an Iraqi Aerospace Engineer moved to California in 2010 as a refugee, and fails to continue his education, or even find an entry level job in his field of expertise. Eng. Ehab Said: “I had to work as a store casher to make living for my family”.

In his interview with Radio Sawa, Eng. Ehab described his life in Iraq and the language barrier he faced when arrived the United States. “I was chief department in my country, and perusing my life dreams, because of the war I came to the United States, I am totally alien, different language, culture, and system. It is hard to communicate with others. It is not like Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, or any other Arabic country” Eng. Ehab Al Ameri said.

Eng. Ehab story, is the same for many newcomer Arabic young men in America who find themselves lost in a huge country with a different language and culture, all they do is isolate themselves from the community and look for any kind of a (none communicating) job.

But, Mohammed Tuama, who arrived to the United States about four years ago, noticed this dilemma, and lunched a website to help the newcomers to find the suitable first steps. “I helped the newcomers understand the life in America, and to avoid falling in troubles” said Mohammed Tuama.

Tuama added “The idea developed to help the newcomers with degrees and professionals. Degreed Newcomers such as: physicians, engineers, teachers, translators.etc… And Professional Newcomers such as: carpenters, blacksmiths, barbers, and artists. They were looking for jobs away from their expertise like: cleaning, and cooking. But we were able to discover the programs they can enroll in to obtain the license or certificates required to peruse their careers.

Tuama sends the newcomers to professional Non-profit organizations to learn English, and prepare them to study. He teaches them about life in America through videos.

But Tuama explained that it is not that easy, and there are many obstacles, the funniest one is some newcomers’ question his intentions behind helping them for free. Tuama added “Some of the newcomers questions are: Why are you helping me? why are you driving your car to take me for a job interview for many miles?, what is your gain?, what is your goal of spending hours building my resume?, Why are you doing that for free?, and Who is paying you to do that?.

Tuama continued, “The reason some are skeptical because they are in a new country, and don’t want to step any uncalculated step. That’s why it is easier to help degreed & professional newcomers for their understanding about the U.S system.

NSD project creates the hope within a lot of the newcomers whom are looking for a new life and a better chance, but were facing obstacles to know where to start.
