The Newcomers Support & Development (NSD) has successfully organized the 1st annual Job & Resources Expo that is designed and tailored to the highly skilled & foreign credentialed newcomers.
This event is the dream of 7 years when six internationally credentialed refugees preparing for the GRE test at the El Cajon Library were dreaming of a place were they can meet directly with employers, Universities, and training providers.
On October 26, 2017 this dream became true with this event. NSD invited 15 agencies representing local Universities, foreign credentialing evaluation company Over 200 bilingual / bi-cultural foreign credentialed newcomer job & resources seeker attended from variety of specialties such as medical professionals, engineers, teachers, translators, interpreters, etc.. attended. A well known sculptor from the Middle East presented his art work during the event. One of the main goals of this event is to inform the mainstream community about this small group of newcomers. They have talents and skills that are needed by our local workforce. By bringing both communities together we can create many opportunities of success. Many highly skilled newcomers are willing to start an entry level positions within tier field of specialty while they are working on required state or local exams to practice their professions. preparing for those exams may take years, so having entry level positions in their field will help them a lot with understating it’s U.S system and culture. Moreover, this will help them make better informed depressions with their career choices. A refugee medical professional will feel proud working in a local clinic or a hospital event in a clerical position while working on the state exams. This experience will assist her/him to learn about the U.S healthcare system and the costumes too. Many foreign credentialed newcomers come with years of experience working for reputable U.S or European companies in their countries.
